Red Dead Redemption PC Port Revival: Get Original Game for a Fair $50 After 14 Years

Ridiculous Price for Red Dead Redemption on PC: A Reality Check

As we finally get to play Red Dead Redemption on PC, it’s hard to shake off the feeling of frustration and disappointment. Last year’s announcement of the game’s release on PC was a welcome surprise, but the price tag has given us a harsh reality check.

At $50, the game’s price is an assertion of its value. Rockstar seems to think that their game is worth waiting 14 years for, and that it deserves to be priced like a full-fat, new triple-A release. But is it really?

The truth is, this is a port of a decade-old game that was already available on other platforms. Given that other classic games like Bayonetta, Arkham City, and Mass Effect 2 are available for around $20, it’s hard to justify the extra cost. Even with enhancements like ultrawide, HDR, DLSS, and high refresh support, which are expected by modern standards, the price feels outrageous.

Value for Money?

Rockstar’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has defended the price, calling it "commercially accurate." But is it really a great value for consumers? The industry has come a long way since 2010, and gamers have a plethora of options for entertainment. There’s no need to break the bank for a game that was already available on other platforms.

The wait for PC Gamers

This decision is just another example of Rockstar’s stubborn stance on PC gaming. After years of waiting, we’re still not getting GTA 6 on PC until 2026 at the earliest. Grand Theft Auto 6, anyone?

In the meantime, we’re left with a game that’s a couple of years older, with a price tag to match. We can only hope that future ports will be more accommodating, with a more reasonable price tag. Until then, we’re left to wonder if Red Dead Redemption is truly worth the investment.
