Razer Revives Snap Tap: Boosting Gaming Performance on Latest Laptops and Keyboards
Razer Brings Rapid-Fire Strafing to Years of Keyboards and Laptops
A New Era in Gaming
Razer, Wooting, Asus, and SteelSeries are just a few of the keyboard manufacturers that have hopped on the rapid-fire strafing bandwagon. This innovative feature allows gamers to press two simultaneous opposing directions at the same time, giving them an edge in fast-paced games. But while you’ve traditionally had to invest in a specific keyboard or set up null binds to get this functionality, Razer is shaking things up by making it accessible to a wider range of devices.
Razer’s Snap Tap Feature: A Game-Changer
Razer’s Snap Tap feature is now available on years of keyboards and laptops, thanks to an update to their Synapse 4 desktop software. This means that every Razer keyboard and Blade laptop that’s compatible with Synapse 4 can now toggle on this feature, giving gamers the ability to rapid-fire strafe like never before. Other manufacturers have their own names for this feature, including “Snappy Tappy” and “Speed Tap,” but Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions (SOCD) is the term that’s stuck.
Not All Razer Devices Are Created Equal
Razer notes that Snap Tap may not be as effective on all Razer laptops and desktop keyboards. It’s best used in combination with magnetic Hall Effect (HE) switches or Rapid Trigger-style switches, which can actuate rapidly and detect presses quickly. This means that if you’re using a keyboard with switches that wait for a full physical press, you might not get the same level of performance out of Snap Tap.
My Personal Take
Personally, I’ll be keeping Snap Tap turned off. While the idea of rapid-fire strafing is exciting, I prefer to focus on other aspects of my gaming experience. But for those who do use this feature, I’m curious to hear how it affects their gameplay. Will you be giving Snap Tap a try?
