Nvidia RTX 5090 Laptop GPU Benchmarks Exposed: The Surprising Truth

Nvidia’s RTX 5090 Laptop GPU: Early Benchmarks Raise Questions

The wait for Nvidia’s next-generation RTX 5000 series is almost over. The CES 2025 unveiled the graphics cards, and now we have a glimpse of the RTX 5090 laptop GPU’s performance capabilities compared to the last generation’s RTX 4090. But early benchmarks from BenchLeaks aren’t painting the most flattering picture.

According to the leak, the RTX 5090 laptop GPU scored as low as 51,831 in Vulkan (the graphics API used in many games) on Geekbench 6, with a high score of 114,821. Tom’s Hardware reports that this result is only one of five benchmark tests, with the lowest score and the final test scoring 77,989.

The inconsistent performance raises questions about whether the new GPU is ready for prime time.

Should We Be Worried?

Not so fast. These early benchmarks are far from official, and the RTX 5000 series has yet to officially launch. The necessary drivers and optimizations haven’t been made yet. Moreover, in-game benchmarks are what really matter – while Geekbench 6 can be accurate, scores will never be the same as in-game tests, which often vary greatly.

We should keep in mind that the RTX 5090 laptop GPU’s performance will depend on various factors, including drivers, game development, and optimization. When Nvidia makes the necessary adjustments and officials drivers are released, we’ll get to see the real picture.

Stay tuned for our in-depth review of the RTX 5090 laptop GPU and other RTX 5000 series graphics cards, coming soon!
