Nvidia RTX 5080 Benchmark Fears: Is the GPU Upgrade a Major Disappointment?
Nvidia RTX 5080 Geekbench Results Leak: 20% Gen-on-Gen Uplift, but Lags Behind RTX 4090
The rumors surrounding the Nvidia RTX 5080 have been generating a lot of excitement in the tech community. With the RTX 5090 already reviewed and evaluated, the focus has finally shifted to the RTX 5080. And, courtesy of Benchleaks, we’ve got some purportly leaked Geekbench results to feast on!
According to these leaked results, the RTX 5080 is expected to deliver around 262,000 in Vulkan and 256,000 in OpenCL. This would translate to a 20% generational increase in performance compared to the RTX 4080 for Vulkan, but a mere 10% increase for OpenCL. Interestingly, Blackwell’s Vulkan performance appears to be stronger than OpenCL, a trend we’ve seen in our own testing.
Comparing the results to the RTX 4090, we can see that the RTX 5080 falls short in OpenCL, with the previous-gen flagship about 20% faster. Meanwhile, the RTX 5090, estimated to be around 40% and 45% faster than the RTX 5080, sets a new standard, but these figures are still based on rumors.

While synthetic benchmarks aren’t perfect, these results do provide a glimpse into the RTX 5080’s raw power. Keep in mind that gaming performance is often a more important factor for most users, which is where we’ll wait for real-world tests to verify these numbers.
The good news is that the RTX 5080’s pricing has dropped to a more reasonable $999 in the US, a relief considering the RTX 4080’s hefty $1,199 tag. But, as with any new technology, the RTX 5080 is expected to be in short supply, with a high demand that might lead to sold-out inventory.
