HMD Delists Nokia Smartphones from European Markets

The Shift Away from Nokia Branding

As we entered a new phase of development earlier this year, HMD Global made a significant move by dropping its Nokia branding for smartphones in favor of its own HMD-branded devices. This didn’t mean the end of Nokia-branded devices entirely, as HMD continued to offer a range of Nokia-branded smartphones, feature phones, and tablets. However, it seems that supplies for those devices have finally come to an end, at least in Europe.

Currently, you won’t find Nokia-branded devices on most official HMD websites in Europe, but these devices are still available across HMD’s storefronts in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand, and Latin America. We assume the availability in these regions will also cease soon.

What Does This Mean for Software Support?

HMD’s support page still lists Nokia smart and feature phones, which will continue to receive software updates. However, it’s unclear for how long. Nokia Corporation, the original Nokia, remains a significant player in the network infrastructure business and one of the largest patent holders in the tech world, with past lawsuits against multiple smartphone makers.
