Next-Generation Android Phone with Jumbo 8000mAh Battery Coming 2024
Fast Charging and Big Batteries: The Future of Smartphones in China is Here
As a serious smartphone user living in the United States, you might feel a bit left behind when it comes to battery innovations. While we enjoy incremental improvements, Chinese phone brands have been accelerating the pace of change. Let’s take a closer look at what’s in store for you.
For instance, Realme has recently unveiled a 320W fast charging system, capable of charging a 4400mAh battery from 0% to 100% in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds. In the US, the best fast-charging option is currently 80W, as seen in the OnePlus 12. This difference in charging speeds is primarily due to the varying power outlet standards in China and the US.
The traditional US flagship phones can’t even begin to compete with the charging speeds available in China. For example, the iPhone 16 Pro models charge slowly at 26-27W, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra maxes out at 45W. The Pixel 9 Pro XL sticks to a more conventional 37W charging. Some users prefer this slower pace to maintain a cell’s lifespan.
Size Matters: The Future of Smartphone Batteries
When it comes to battery life, size is essential. China is once again leading the way, according to leaker Digital Chat Station. Realme is rumored to be testing three configurations for an upcoming flagship, believed to be the Realme GT8 Pro:
• A 7,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging, reaching a full charge in 42 minutes.
• A 7,500mAh battery with 100W fast charging, reaching a full charge in 55 minutes.
• An 8,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging, reaching a full charge in 70 minutes.
US smartphone users craving the largest battery will have to wait for the upcoming OnePlus 13, featuring a 6,000mAh battery and 80W fast charging. With its combination of size and speed, the OnePlus 13 might be the go-to choice for Americans prioritizing battery life and fast charging next year.
Realme, being part of the BBK Electronics umbrella, is a popular brand with a global market share of 8.2% in the first half of 2024, ranking seventh among the top 15 smartphone brands worldwide. The Realme GT7 Pro, currently available, boasts a 6,500mAh battery.
