New Nvidia RTX 5090 Rush: Gamers Swarm for Stock, But Will It Last?

The Hype for Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5090: Gamers Queue Up Ahead of Launch
The anticipation surrounding Nvidia’s flagship graphics card, the GeForce RTX 5090, is reaching a fever pitch as its release date draws near. And it seems that gamers are just as excited, with lines already forming outside retailers ahead of its launch.
Reports from sources like IGN and the r/Microcenter subreddit have confirmed that tents have been pitched in front of retailers, securing spots in line well before the card goes on sale. This includes a brick-and-mortar Micro Center in Tustin, CA. One Redditor even claims to be one of the campers, insisting that the RTX 5090 will be for personal use and not for reselling purposes.
But what’s driving this level of enthusiasm? Is it genuine excitement for the next big tech toy, or are scalpers attempting to profit off the hype? Regardless, it’s fascinating to see just how far people are willing to go to get their hands on something coveted.
Possible RTX 5090 Shortages and More
One of the biggest obstacles to getting your hands on the RTX 5090 will likely be shortages. MSI reports that RTX 5090 supply will be limited at launch, suggesting a chip shortage on Nvidia’s end. IT Home (translated from Chinese) attributes the possible shortage to miscommunication between Nvidia and partners, as well as the Chinese New Year affecting factory opening times.
To ease this issue, Micro Center will be using a ‘voucher system’ on launch day, with customers receiving a voucher on a first-come, first-served basis before the store opens at 9am EST / 6am PST. This ensures that customers will have access to at least one of the graphics cards, although it doesn’t guarantee which one they’ll get.

The Future of Graphics Cards
As the RTX 5090 launches, it’s likely that shortages will continue to plague the market. Scalpers, tariffs, and other factors could further exacerbate the situation. But if all else fails, it might be best to wait it out, especially since the RTX 4000-series is more than powerful enough for the best gaming PCs.
