NASCAR’s Kyle Larson Attempts “The Double” Feat Again, Set to Compete in 2025 Indy 500

NASCAR’s Kyle Larson to Attempt the Double at Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600

Don’t count out a determined Kyle Larson from attempting "The Double" in 2025. The NASCAR Cup Series champion announced, alongside Arrow McLaren, that he’ll be racing at the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. This daredevil feat hasn’t been accomplished since Kurt Busch in 2014, and Larson is determined to make history.

Rookie Mistakes and Missed Opportunities

Larson’s previous attempt at the Double in 2024 didn’t quite go as planned. He finished 18th at the Indy 500 and didn’t even start the Coca-Cola 600 due to extended rain delays and rookie mistakes. Despite the disappointment, Larson remains optimistic about his chances in 2025.

A Second Shot at Glory

"I really enjoyed the month of May in Indy and racing with Arrow McLaren, but I was really disappointed with missing the Coke 600 with the No. 5 HendrickCars.com team," Larson said. "I appreciate the second opportunity because we have unfinished business. I really want to complete all 1,100 miles, and I think we have the opportunity to battle for the win in both events."

The Last Successful Attempt at the Double

Tony Stewart managed to complete the Double in 2001, finishing sixth at the Indy 500 and third at the Coca-Cola 600. Like Larson, Stewart has the talent and speed to take on both races. Now, it’s up to Larson to follow in Stewart’s footsteps and make a name for himself in motorsports history.

One Condition: Priority on the NASCAR Side

Larson must give NASCAR and the Coca-Cola 600 priority, which means if it rains in Indy and forces long delays, he’ll have to abandon his 500 bid to head for Charlotte. This eliminates the possibility of drama surrounding a waiver to skip the Cup Series race, making it a clean slate for Larson’s second attempt at the Double.

Hoping for a Historic Achievement

Here’s to hoping we get to see one of today’s best drivers compete in both big races. With Larson’s talent and determination, he might just make history in 2025.
