Maximize Your Texting Experience: Google Messages Magic Rewrite Unlocks Bigger Text Field

Google Messages’ Magic Rewrite Feature Moves to the ‘Plus’ Menu

Google Messages, the popular messaging app, has quietly made a significant change to its Magic Compose feature. The update moves the "Rewrite" aspect of Magic Compose from its original location to the "Plus" menu. This change also brings a few other perks, including a slightly larger text field and a rebranded feature name, "Magic Rewrite."

What is Magic Compose?

Magic Compose is a feature within Google Messages that uses AI to help you draft responses to messages. It can generate a reply based on your previous conversations and even offer alternative responses in different styles, such as "Remix," "Shakespeare," or "Chill."

The Old vs. the New

The original Magic Compose feature had two main parts. The first part generated a reply based on your previous messages, accessible by tapping the message bubble with a sparkle icon in the text field. The second part offered a "Rewrite" feature with various styles, also accessible from the same compose bar.

The New Magic Rewrite

Now, the "Rewrite" feature is part of the "Plus" menu, which includes other useful features like Gallery, GIFs, Stickers, Files, Location, Contacts, Schedule Send, and Selfie GIF. The text field has also gotten a slight upgrade, with a bit more space to write your messages.

Is Magic Compose On-Device or Cloud-Based?

Magic Compose runs on-device if your phone supports Gemini Nano. Otherwise, it’s cloud-based and requires a Google One membership.

When Will the Update Roll Out?

The Magic Rewrite update is currently rolling out to stable users of Google Messages, but it’s not yet widely available. Keep an eye out for the update on your device.
