Mastering Fortnite’s New FPS Mode: A Hysterical Counter-Strike Experience

Fortnite’s New Ballistic Mode: A Tactical FPS Shooter Inspired by Counter-Strike and Valorant

Epic Games is about to shake things up in the world of Fortnite by allowing creators to publish their own experiences with first-person modes. To give you an idea of what’s in store, Epic is launching its own tactical FPS shooter, called "Ballistic," which seems to play a lot like Counter-Strike or Valorant.

What is Ballistic Mode?

Ballistic is an adrenaline-fueled, round-based 5v5 competitive game mode where strategy, teamwork, and individual skill are key to victory. Players are divided into two teams, with one team trying to plant the "Rift Point Device" and the other team trying to defend against it. Between rounds, you can buy gear for the next one, and teams switch sides after six rounds. The team that wins seven rounds takes the win.

Is Ballistic Mode a Game-Changer?

Ballistic isn’t the first time Epic has borrowed an idea from another game and made it their own. Fortnite‘s racing and festival modes, for example, borrow heavily from Rocket League and Rock Band, respectively. The game’s Lego survival mode has similarities to Minecraft, and even the now-gone Impostors mode was inspired by Among Us. Heck, Fortnite‘s main battle royale mode was a spinoff inspired by PUBG.

Why Does Ballistic Matter?

Now that Epic is aiming to make Fortnite more like Roblox, where players are encouraged to try out various experiences, modes like Ballistic and Reload let Epic experiment with new ideas without changing the core battle royale experience. Plus, since your purchased Fortnite outfits and gear generally work across all modes, there’s a financial incentive for Epic to add more experiences to the mix.

When Can You Try Ballistic?

Ballistic launches in early access on December 11th, and Fortnite creators will be able to publish their own experiences with first-person modes on the same day.
