Marvel Snap Recovers from TikTok Ban, Seeks New Publisher Amid Resilience

Marvel Snap Returns to Play After TikTok’s US Blockade
The temporary blocking of TikTok in the US over the weekend had an unexpected impact on the digital world. One of the notable casualties was Marvel Snap, a popular collectible card game starring America’s favorite superheroes. Despite TikTok’s access being reinstated after 12 hours, Marvel Snap remained offline for another 12 hours.
Back to Business
Now, Marvel Snap is back and playable on PC, which is great news for fans of card games and superheroes alike. However, this may not be good news for Nuverse, the game’s publisher, which is a subsidiary of TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance. As a result, it’s clear why Marvel Snap got caught up in the mess.
A New Era for Marvel Snap
In a tweet, Second Dinner, the California-based studio behind Marvel Snap, announced the game’s return with a hint at changes to come. “MARVEL SNAP is back online in the U.S. But to make sure this NEVER happens again, we’re working to bring more services in-house and partner with a new publisher,” they wrote. The studio also teased a new era for the game, promising more information in the future.
Uncertainty Ahead
The situation remains uncertain, as the US President’s announcement of a potential 50% ownership position in TikTok could have far-reaching implications. If a deal isn’t reached, TikTok could disappear again, and with it, Marvel Snap and other Nuverse titles. In-app purchases are currently unavailable but are expected to return soon.

It’s unusual for a studio to signal its intent to leave a publisher while still working with them. However, these are unusual circumstances, and Nuverse and ByteDance haven’t been let off the hook yet. The future of Marvel Snap and other Nuverse titles hangs in the balance, and only time will tell what’s in store.
