Marvel Rivals Director Confirms No Role Queue: Exclusive Insights Revealed

Marvel Rivals: Role Queue System Not in the Cards for Now

The thrill of battle is alive and well in Marvel Rivals, the free-to-play character shooter that has captured the hearts of over 20 million players worldwide. But with great power comes the risk of imbalance, and some players are left feeling frustrated when they’re stuck in matches where their entire team is composed of duelists, forcing them to play healer or tank to balance the lineup.

While a role queue system would seem like a simple solution to this problem, Marvel Rivals’ creative director Guangyun "Guangguang" Chen has shed some light on the studio’s stance on this issue. In an exclusive interview with Dot Esports, Chen revealed that the team is not considering the implementation of a role queue system at the moment.

A Wider Variety of Team Compositions

So, what’s the plan, then? Chen explains that the studio’s goal is to offer a wider variety of team compositions through team-up skills and their own designs, allowing players to choose their Marvel superheroes without being limited by a specific role. This approach is reflected in the game’s current design, where data from matches suggests that Marvel Rivals doesn’t require a role queue system.

"We want people to have a Marvel experience where they’re free to select what they want," Chen notes. "Since the beta test earlier this year, things have been rational and within expectations. In our Competitive play recently, there is a lot of different compositions emerging from players, and we’d like to continue to monitor these fun compositions and how they impact our game."

A Messy but Fun Experience

While some players might be disappointed by the lack of a role queue system, I’m actually thrilled to see an online multiplayer game studio resisting the urge to balance everything too quickly and letting things be a bit chaotic and messy for a while. After all, one of the charms of Marvel Rivals is that every character feels powerful and matches rarely play out in the same way, making each game a unique experience.

If a role queue is ever added to the game, I hope it doesn’t signal a shift to balancing out all the fun of Marvel Rivals. For now, the game’s current design is all about letting players have a blast with their beloved Marvel heroes, and that’s something to look forward to.
