IPhone Compatibility Breakthrough: Discover If Your Device Can Seamlessly Upgrade to iOS 19
Big News: iOS 18-Compatibles May Get iOS 19 Upgrade, But Not All iPads
This year’s launch of iOS 18 has brought a ton of new features and functions to millions of iPhones, and a new leak suggests that the same handsets that can run iOS 18 are going to be eligible for an upgrade to iOS 19 as well.
According to the usually reliable iPhoneSoft (via 9to5Mac), handsets as far back as the iPhone XS and iPhone XR, launched in 2018, are going to be able to get next year’s software update. iOS 18, meanwhile, dropped support for the iPhone X and iPhone 8, which both launched in 2017.
But here’s the catch: not all new iOS 19 features will be available on all iPhones. This is something we’re already used to, since recent handsets have the necessary processing power to handle Apple Intelligence, while others don’t.
So, what’s the plan for iOS 19? Apparently, Apple is planning an AI-powered update for Siri, similar to ChatGPT. While we don’t know much about the specifics, it’s likely that iOS 19 will bring more advanced AI capabilities to iOS devices.
What About iPads?
What about the iPads, you ask? Well, there’s a caveat: not all iPads will be compatible with iOS 19. In fact, the 7th-gen entry-level iPad, launched in 2019, won’t be compatible at all. The new minimum requirement for iPadOS 19 is said to be an A12 chip, which means every other iPad should get the software update.
The new features will likely be similar to those in iOS 19, with some tweaks and extras to account for the tablet form factor.
When Can We Expect iOS 19 and iPadOS 19?
If Apple sticks to its usual schedule, we should officially hear about iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 at the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2025, likely happening in June. After that, we’ll get a beta testing period, followed by a full public release in September 2025.
The new software updates will run on the iPhone 17 series, as well as whatever new iPads Apple decides to bring out this year. We could see the 11th-generation iPad, possibly even before the end of 2025, along with a new 8th-generation iPad Pro. Stay tuned for more updates!
