Harry Potter Monopoly Gets First Discount At Amazon And Walmart
In late May, Harry Potter finally received the adaptation many fans would probably assume had already existed: Monopoly. Hasbro, the publisher of the ubiquitous board game, has partnered with seemingly every big film and television franchise, but Harry Potter wasn’t one of them. Surprising, we know. But now fans no longer need to create custom versions of Monopoly set in the Wizarding World, and Monopoly: Harry Potter Edition is available for its first discount at Amazon, dropping the price to only $32 (was $40) for Prime members.
When Amazon sells out–the retailer is nearly sold out as of 2:15 PM PT on July 19–you can buy Monopoly: Harry Potter Edition at Walmart for $33. Plus, you don’t need a membership to take advantage of Walmart’s deal.
Like other Monopoly reskins, this version retains the core rules and gameplay of the original board game but has been remixed with characters, locations, and art from the Harry Potter series. The player pieces are now the Hogwarts Express, double-decker Knight Bus, Firebolt broomstick, Hagrid’s motorcycle, Hippogriff, and Thestral. Paper money is replaced with points earned for the Hogwarts house the players are sorted into at the start of the game. From there, it plays out like your usual Monopoly session, with players staking claim to locations like the Hogwarts Quidditch pitch, Dumbledore’s office, and the Hogsmeade Station.

There are plenty of other Harry Potter board games out there, including officially licensed versions of classic games like Clue, and original games like the Hogwarts Battle cooperative deckbuilding game, just to name a few. Here’s a quick list of other titles that are also available at Amazon, some of which have nice discounts right now.
While Harry Potter remains a popular franchise, the hateful, anti-trans views of its creator and author of the original novels, JK Rowling, have tarnished the series in recent years. Rowling is not directly involved with the creation of Monopoly: Harry Potter Edition or these other board games, but she financially benefits from merchandise sales. Our article on how Rowling’s comments have impacted the trans community offers more information on her history of anti-trans bigotry.
