Google Pixel Stand 2 Removed from Store: What’s Behind its Disappearance?
Just as August was winding down, we shared the not-so-exciting news that the Google Pixel Stand 2 wouldn’t work with the pricey Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which, of course, is the most expensive member of the Pixel 9 family. The culprit? The charging coils on the foldable device aren’t perfectly centered, making it incompatible with the accessory.
As a result, Google has taken the Pixel Stand 2 off the menu at the Google Store, effective immediately. But before you start panicking, know that you can still find it elsewhere – for instance, BestBuy is selling it on eBay for the same $79 that Google used to charge. In fact, 25 people viewed it in the last 24 hours, likely Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, or Pixel 9 Pro XL owners who can’t find it stocked in the Google Store.
The Pixel Stand 2, when it was still available at the Google Store, came with a 30W USB-C power adapter (PD 3.0 w/PPS) and a USB-C to C cable just shy of five feet long. While it won’t work with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, it does work with the non-foldable Pixel 9 models – the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL.
Now, with the Pixel Stand 2 gone from the Google Store, some big questions come to mind: Will we see a Pixel Stand 3 in the future? If so, will it be compatible with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the rest of the Pixel 9 line? And will a Pixel Stand 3 offer faster wireless charging speeds?
The disappearance of the Pixel Stand 2 from the Google Store is a significant move, marketing-wise, as it’s an accessory that allows Pixel 9 series users to enjoy the models’ fastest wireless charging speeds. Plus, it’s also used by Pixel Buds owners to charge their Pixel Buds charging case.
The only charging accessory Google introduced this year was the 45W USB-C charger, priced at $29.99.
