Google Meet Android Update: Edge-to-Edge Video Experience Enhanced
Google’s latest update to Meet is all about giving you a more streamlined and immersive video calling experience. The company has been working on upgrading the personal video calling experience, and the new UI is now live on Android devices.
One of the biggest changes you’ll notice is the edge-to-edge video design, which provides a more space-efficient experience. The previous design had margins around the video feed, but now the video takes up the entire screen, making it feel more immersive. This change is particularly noticeable in 1:1 conversations and when using the app in landscape mode.
Another update is the clearer indicators for meeting information, such as the meeting title, which are now displayed in circular and pill-shaped containers. You’ll also notice that the meeting controls have been rearranged to match the web UI, with the video on/off, mic toggle, wave, overflow menu, and end button all in one place.
But what about the old vs. new UI? Let’s take a look at the before-and-after images below to see the difference.

The goal of this update is to provide a richer, more immersive viewing experience, and you’ll be able to see this change on Android phones, tablets, or large screen devices. This new Meet UI on Android is available now for all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
This update follows Google’s plan to upgrade the personal video calling experience over the coming months to match the link-based meeting experience with more advanced features, like on-the-go mode, live captions, screen sharing, and more expressive features.
