The release of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 last year marked the end of the original pair’s availability on the Google Store. However, you can still find the first-gen Pixel Buds Pro at some retailers, with Woot selling them brand new for $109.99 in a clearance sale.

What’s the difference?

The 2022 buds are 24% lighter and 27% smaller than the 2024 pair. While the original’s bean-esque shape may feel more comfortable for some, the upgrade may not be substantial enough to justify the switch. On the other hand, the new pair boasts impressive technical improvements.

Battery Life Upgrade

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 offers 8 hours of battery life with Active Noise Cancellation on and 12 hours without (compared to 7 and 11 hours respectively). Charging case battery life has also received a boost, from 20 to 30 hours (ANC) and 31 to 48 hours (no ANC).

IP Rating Upgrade

Additionally, the new pair boasts an IP54 rating (vs IPX4) for improved water resistance, while the charging case has an IPX4 rating (vs IPX2).

Other Notable Upgrades

Extra small eartips are now available, and the Pixel Buds 2 support Bluetooth 5.4 (up from 5.0). The Gemini experience is currently on par, featuring spoken notifications.

On the other hand, if you’re in the market for a budget-friendly option, the Pixel Buds A-Series is still available for $99, which is often discounted to $79.
