Furious Gamers Unite: Nvidia RTX 5090 and 5080 Launch Chaos Confirms Rumors of Disappointment and Frustration

Nvidia’s RTX 5080 and 5090 Launch in Chaos: Stock Scarcity and Scalpers

The highly anticipated launch of Nvidia’s RTX 5080 and 5090 graphics cards has sent the tech world into a frenzy. As predicted, the stock was light, and the cards sold out incredibly quickly, leaving many enthusiasts and gamers frustrated and eager to get their hands on these new next-generation GPUs.

Gone are the days of strolling into a store and easily picking up a new graphics card. The reality now is that even the priciest, third-party RTX 5080 models sold out in the blink of an eye, leaving only one option: buying a full PC with one of these powerful cards pre-installed.

Folks lined up days before the launch in the US, while in Japan, a lottery system was implemented at PC Koubou, a specialty store, to try to make buying a Blackwell GPU a fair process. But, as we’ve come to expect, it didn’t quite go as planned, resulting in chaotic scenes with buyers scaling the fence of a nearby kindergarten to get to the store.

Some online rumblings suggest that Nvidia released significantly fewer units than expected, with only 250 RTX 5090 and 2,400 RTX 5080 available at US retailers. This scarcity has led to accusations that the launch was, in essence, a "paper launch," with too little stock available for the masses.

As we’ve come to expect, scalpers are already cashing in on the chaos, jacking up prices for these in-demand GPUs. But here’s the best advice: don’t fall for it. Don’t feed the scalpers.

For now, the only way to get your hands on an RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 is to buy a premium PC with one of these GPUs pre-installed or wait for the next shipment. Some enthusiasts are even considering buying a full PC and then upgrading or selling it, but that’s a whole new can of worms.

The focus now turns to the upcoming launch of RTX 5070 models next month and the anxiously awaited release of AMD’s RDNA 4 in March. As we know, some RX 9070 graphics cards have already hit shelves, so hopefully, Team Red will learn from Nvidia’s mistakes and deliver a better next-gen launch for stock levels.

Stay tuned to our live blogs for the latest updates on RTX 5090 and 5080 stock availability from major retailers. For now, the chances of scoring one of these coveted GPUs seem slim to none, so it’s best to remain patient and keep an eye on the market.
