Fuel the Foldable Resurgence: 1 Surprising Strategy to Ignite Demand

Foldable Phones: Has the Demand Reached a Plateau?

A recent industry analysis suggests that the demand for Android foldable phones may have finally reached a plateau. But, there’s a potential game-changer on the horizon – the long-awaited arrival of an Apple device.

A Drop in Demand?

According to a report from Display Supply Chain Consultants, the foldable display market has only grown by 5% in 2025, and is expected to slow down further in 2026. This comes after a impressive year-on-year growth of around 40% between 2019 and 2023. The figures are based on display procurement, not handset sales.

Samsung’s Disappointment

The report highlights that Samsung, a key player in the foldable market, is disappointed with the adoption of its latest smartphones, such as the Galaxy Z Flip 6. While Samsung has seen success in its home market of South Korea and Europe, it has yet to make an impact in the US or China.

Huawei’s Struggle

The report also notes that Huawei’s share of foldable panel procurement has slipped significantly in 2024, due to the delayed release of its Mate X6 and Pocket 3 handsets.

A Glimmer of Hope – Apple’s Entry

While the outlook for attracting new customers to foldables remains bleak, the report suggests that Apple’s entry into the market in 2026 could be a game-changer. With its dominant position in the flagship smartphone market, Apple’s move into foldables could generate significant growth for the industry. Any improvement in form factor, functionality, or durability could drive new demand for foldables, with the report predicting a record year in 2026, with over 30% growth, and continued growth projected for 2027 and 2028.

Tri-Fold Devices and Slideable Laptops

The report also predicts that we can expect more tri-fold devices, like the Huawei Mate XT, to arrive in 2026, as well as slideable laptops in the same year.
