Fossil’s Last Wear OS Smartwatch Disappears Forever: Say Goodbye to an Era
Fossil’s Last Wear OS Smartwatch Disappears from Online Store
It’s been a rough year for Fossil in the smartwatch market. Roughly a year ago, the brand announced it was ending its Wear OS smartwatches, and today, the last remaining one has been pulled from the market. The Citizen CZ Smart Gen 2, a stylish and feature-packed smartwatch, was a late addition to Fossil’s Wear OS lineup. Unfortunately, it never quite lived up to its potential.
Fossil’s journey with Wear OS was an ambitious one, partnering with Google to create a sleek and user-friendly smartwatch experience. However, despite its efforts, the brand struggled to make an impact in the competitive market. A major factor was its limited presence, with Fossil’s smartwatches accounting for only a tiny fraction of the overall Wear OS demand.
Fossil’s Struggle with Wear OS
Fossil’s foray into Wear OS started strong, but it was a tough road ahead. The brand released several smartwatches, including the Gen 1 and Gen 2 models, but the latter saw its unveiling plagued by issues. The release was marred by bugs, which led to a brief removal from the market. Although the watch is now back on sale, it’s clear that Fossil’s efforts with Wear OS haven’t paid off.
The Final Nail in the Coffin
As of January 2025, Citizen has quietly removed the CZ Smart Gen 2 from its website, ending the last remnants of Fossil’s Wear OS endeavors. The move marks the end of an era for Fossil in the Wear OS market. This leaves Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch as the market leaders, with Mobvoi and OnePlus being the only other brands actively using the platform.
What’s Next for Wear OS?
With Fossil exiting the market, the future of Wear OS looks bright. Google’s focus is on sustainable growth, and the platform is experiencing rapid expansion. As the world waits for the next innovation, one thing is clear: Wear OS is here to stay.
