Fortnite’s Festive Beat: Rock Band-Like Musical Mode Support Guaranteed Until 2025 and Beyond
Fortnite’s Rockin’ Festival Mode: A Year of Music and More!
Epic Games has confirmed that the game’s Rock Band-inspired Festival mode, developed by Harmonix, will continue to receive support for the foreseeable future. This announcement comes as the mode celebrates its first anniversary this weekend, with a limited-time offer allowing players to access all 285 tracks in the mode.
Epic Games has had a busy year, expanding Fortnite’s offering beyond its shooter roots with the release of Lego Fortnite, which has been a hit, as well as the arrival of Festival and Rocket Racing, the arcade-style mode developed by Psyonix, the team behind Rocket League.
However, it’s worth noting that Rocket Racing, which received a surge of popularity when it first launched, will no longer receive regular themed content updates. For now, the mode remains open to play, but with no new cosmetic rewards to unlock.
But back to Festival mode, which has seen impressive player engagement, with hundreds of thousands of concurrent players across the game’s main modes, including Battle Royale and Zero Build. Lego Fortnite, on the other hand, has seen tens of thousands of players, while Rocket Racing trails behind with single-digit thousands.
One of the key attractions of Festival mode is its monetisation strategy, which features a seasonal pass and the ability to purchase individual tracks to keep and play, regardless of the song’s rotation. This has allowed the mode to spotlight big-name artists like The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and Metallica, with plans to continue featuring more music icons in the future.
As for the first year of Festival mode, Epic Games has announced that "that’s officially a wrap," but also hinted at what’s to come in 2025 and beyond, saying, "Festival roadies and stage crew are already hard at work to make 2025 and beyond even bigger. That said, 2024 isn’t over just yet, and we have some surprises to help see the year out in style!"
What’s Next?
In the coming days, players can look forward to recevoir new XP quests featuring The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and Colombian singer Karol G, with their original skins getting a Platinum reskin.
With the release of Lego Fortnite’s Brick Life, a new social game mode, and the arrival of Fortnite Ballistic, a Valorant-inspired 5v5 mode, it’s a busy time for Fortnite, with more exciting updates on the horizon.
