Ford Recalls 150,000 Broncos Due to Hazardous Suspension Failure: Protect Your Ride Now

Ford Issues Massive Recall for 2021-2024 Broncos Due to Worn-out Suspension Parts

Ford has announced a massive recall affecting nearly 150,000 examples of the 2021-2024 Bronco, specifically the Badlands trim and those equipped with the Sasquatch Package. The issue at hand is a worn-out suspension system, which can lead to a serious safety risk.

What’s going on?

The problem lies with the long-flange rear shock absorbers, which can experience corrosion between the external reservoir, mounting flange, and damper body. This can cause the external reservoir to separate, leading to a bouncy ride, unusual noises, and, in extreme cases, a leak near the rear wheels. If you’re driving, these warning signs will alert you that something’s amiss, but if you’re just cruising, you might not even notice.

The numbers are in

As of now, Ford has received 551 warranty claims related to this issue, and, fortunately, they’re not aware of any resulting accidents or injuries.

What are concerned owners saying?

Several owners have come forward, sharing their experiences with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). One owner reported, "The external reservoirs… fell off at or around 36,000 miles." Another noted, "The [reservoir] simply fell off, and this causes the vehicle to bounce uncontrollably." Online forums are filled with similar discussions and concerns.

The catch: Ford’s not sure how to fix the problem yet

Logically, the recall is a huge concern for Ford, but there’s an unforeseen hurdle – they’re still figuring out how to fix the issue. According to the NHTSA, "The remedy is under development." Spare parts should be available in the third quarter of 2025, but until then, it’s unclear what the solution will be.

What’s next?

Ford will be reaching out to affected owners via mail on February 3, offering to repair or replace the faulty parts. Motorists who have already paid to fix their own worn-out suspension can claim a refund.
