If you’re among the many Android users seeing the Google app repeatedly crash with the error "Google keeps stopping," you’re not alone. On Saturday evening, a large number of users reported this issue, and it’s still being experienced as of Sunday morning.

Update: The Google app is now working again for some Android users as of around 11:00 PM PT. However, the issue has not been fully resolved for everyone.

What’s Going On?

There’s an ongoing issue with serving in Google Search that’s affecting a large number of users searching on the Google app on Android. The company acknowledged the "service disruption" at 23:07 PT. Here’s what’s happening:

  • Opening the Google app via the homescreen icon will result in a crash. You’ll briefly see the app load before being returned to the homescreen.
  • The Google Search bar widget momentarily shows your past queries before crashing.
  • The Pixel Launcher search bar continues to work for device lookup, but entering a query briefly loads the results page before crashing.
  • Google Discover (on the left of your homescreen) won’t launch, and tapping the Voice Search microphone also stops the Google app.
  • Android shows a "Google keeps stopping" message after repeatedly attempting to launch the app.

Workarounds and Affected Devices

So, what can you do while waiting for a fix? Here are some alternatives:

  • Use the website version of Google Search via Chrome or other mobile browsers.
  • Try the latest stable (15.35) or beta (15.36) versions of the Google Search app, as the issue affects both.
  • Use the Gemini app, which continues to work.

The issue has been reported on Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, and other Android devices running Android 15, 14, and (presumably) earlier.

Is There a Fix?

For now, there’s no obvious fix, but exploring the workarounds mentioned above can help you keep searching. Keep an eye on this space for any updates on the issue, and feel free to mention in the comments what country you’re seeing this issue in.
