Fast-Track to the Future: Henry Cavill Leads the Epic Quest in Amazon’s Upcoming Voltron Movie
The Future of Voltron: Henry Cavill to Star in Live-Action Adaptation
Henry Cavill, the Man of Steel and Geralt of Rivia, is moving on to his next big project. The talented actor has signed on to star in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Voltron, produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill is the second cast member to be announced, following Daniel Quinn-Toye, a rising star who won acclaim for his performance as Romeo in London’s West End production of Romeo & Juliet. While no details about Cavill’s role have been revealed, fans of the original series are speculating that he might be playing Keith Kogane, the leader of a group of space explorers who team up to pilot the robot lions that form Voltron to battle against the evil forces of King Zarkon and the Drule empire.
For the uninitiated, Voltron originated as a dubbed and edited version of the 1981 anime series Beast King GoLion, with the second season adapted from the unrelated series Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. The show’s popularity led to the creation of new episodes featuring the Lion Force Voltron, followed by a crossover special with both versions of Voltron.
In 2016, DreamWorks Animation produced an animated series, Voltron: Legendary Defender, which ran for 78 episodes on Netflix. While it’s unclear if the new feature film will incorporate elements from this version of the series, fans are eagerly awaiting more information on the project’s progress.
Rawson Marshall Thurber is set to direct the film, co-writing the script with Ellen Shanman. Unfortunately, the film does not yet have a release date, leaving fans to wonder when they’ll get to witness Cavill’s take on the iconic spaceship pilot.
