Exclusive Leak Reveals Groundbreaking iPhone 17 Pro Design Revamp
Rumored Updates to the iPhone 17 Pro’s Front Design
The debate rages on about whether Apple will stick to the current notched design or switch to a Pixel-like horizontal island for their new iPhones. Amidst the uncertainty, a recent leak from Chinese outlet My Drivers has shed some light on potential updates to the iPhone 17 Pro’s front design.
A New Dynamic Island?
In 2022, the iPhone 14 Pro ditched the notch for a Dynamic Island, and since then, no significant changes have been made to the shape-shifting cutout. However, this year, it seems that’s set to change. According to the leak, the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a smaller Dynamic Island, which is a claim that’s been consistent with what analyst Jeff Pu first mentioned in May.
So, how will Apple achieve this new design? Instead of placing the Face ID system behind the screen to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, they’ll use metalens technology to make the cutout narrower. Metalens, also known as metasurface lens, is an optical lens that uses nanostructured materials to manipulate light, making it flat and lightweight, allowing companies to free up space by replacing traditional lenses and other optical components.
What Does This Mean for the iPhone 17 Pro?
The report also includes a concept image that illustrates what the smaller Dynamic Island might look like, as well as claims that the phone will have smaller bezels, bringing us one step closer to an all-glass iPhone. While it’s unlikely that Apple will abandon the Face ID system anytime soon, this new design could be an important step in that direction.
Other Rumors Abound
Meanwhile, conflicting leaks are circulating about whether Apple will adopt a horizontally stacked camera array for their new phones. While this is still up in the air, it does look like Apple is at least considering refreshing the design, and if we’re lucky, at least one of these leaks might materialize.
