Exclusive Leak Reveals Full Specs of AMD’s Powerful Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU
The upcoming AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor: What do we know so far?
Tons of rumors and reports have been circulating about the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, and while some of these may be true, some may be unfounded hype. But, thanks to a recent leak from motherboard manufacturer Maxsun, we might finally have a good idea of what this processor is packing.
According to the leak, the AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D (or Ryzen 7, whichever is correct) has a TDP of 120W and 96MB of cache, with 32MB of L3 cache and 64MB of 3D V-Cache. This cache size is the same as in previous models, which is a bit underwhelming.
The leak also reveals some other key specifications
The leak also reveals the base clock speed to be 4.7 GHz, 900 MHz faster than the 9700X, and a boosted clock speed of 5.2 GHz, which is 300 MHz slower than the 9700X. It’s likely that the TDP being higher in the 9800X3D is the reason for this.
One thing that’s still a mystery is the single-core clock speed, but it’s likely to be around 5.4/5.5 GHz based on past performance trends.
Release date and expected specs
If past reports are anything to go by, we should be expecting an official confirmation of the 9800X3D’s specs on October 25, 2024. However, the actual launch date would likely be sometime in November 2024.
Disappointing rumored performance
While the base clock speeds might be promising, a recent report from a German tech site suggests that the performance might not be as impressive as expected. In gaming tests, the Ryzen 9800X3D is only 11% faster than the 7800X3D in Far Cry 6, 4% faster in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and 2% in Black Myth: Wukong. In Cinebench, there is a 18% performance increase and 28% in multi-core tests, but overall, these results are less than impressive.
While the Ryzen 9800X3D might be the best of its kind, it seems that AMD might be playing catch-up in the market, rather than setting new standards.
