Europeans Get Reprieve as Netflix Price Hikes Continue: Expert Insights on Subscription Changes

Netflix Price Hikes: A New Wave of Increases Across Tiers
In a move that’s sure to make waves among its subscribers, Netflix has announced a fresh batch of price hikes across its various membership tiers. The streaming giant is increasing its Premium subscription from $22.99 to $25 a month, among other changes. However, for the time being, most European countries won’t be affected by these price increases.
Driving Growth and Expansion
Despite these changes, Netflix is celebrating its biggest quarterly subscriber increase in history, with a staggering 19 million new customers joining the platform in its most recent fourth quarter. The company attributes this growth to a combination of live sports and original programming, including the hit series Squid Game, which has already amassed over 165.7 million views.
Expectations for 2025
As the streaming service looks to the future, it’s expecting to generate higher than forecast revenue in 2025. This growth is expected to be fueled, in part, by a fresh round of price increases targeting the US, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina, which come into effect today.
Price Hikes Across Most Plans
- The ad-supported tier will increase from $6.99 to $7.99 a month.
- The standard ad-free subscription will rise from $15.49 to $17.99 per month.
- The premium tier will increase from $22.99 to $24.99 a month, still the only way to watch Netflix content in 4K.
International Expansion
While the price increases announced today only affect the US, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina, it’s likely that similar changes will come to additional territories in the future. Netflix’s previous behavior suggests that it will continue to implement price hikes to maintain its position as a leader in the streaming industry.
