Essential Truth: Dodge Ram Secrets Exposed – Behind the Brand Borders

The Dodge-Ram Conundrum: An Exclusive Interview with Dodge CEO Matt McAlear
As we sat down to discuss the future of the automotive industry, I couldn’t help but wonder whether the "Dodge" label was still a factor in the minds of Ram truck enthusiasts. My boss, Kyle, had recently had the opportunity to grab lunch with Dodge CEO, Matt McAlear, and I jumped at the chance to ask a question that had been nagging at me for a while: do people still refer to Ram trucks as Dodges?
Why the "Dodge" Label Still Lingers
"My jaw dropped when my boss asked me to ask you that," McAlear laughed. "The single biggest lead driving source for Ram is the Dodge website."
It’s not just me, though. Living in the heart of truck country, I’ve seen firsthand how many folks still refer to those Ram products as Dodges. Whether they know it or not, it’s an unmistakable hint at the brand’s rich history.
Merging the Brands? Not So Fast
When I posed the idea of merging the two brands, McAlear’s response was telling. "It’s funny. I don’t know what the right answer is. The value of Ram has gone through the roof since 2009, and it allows us to be just a crazy, off-the-wall brand where if we piss off 95% of the people out there, it doesn’t matter. We’re not trying to sell to everybody, and we’re just like them if we’re not ridiculous."
He continued, "Could there be a benefit? There could be. Would there be negatives? Yeah. But right now, customers can call it what they want and still know how to get to them."

No Merging Happening Anytime Soon
McAlear’s candid assessment leaves little doubt about the company’s stance. It seems that as long as the Ram brand remains a driving force, the issue of label loyalty won’t be a major concern. As he puts it, "Even the insurance companies are still calling them Dodge Rams."
