End-of-Era Alert: Beloved Mobile Classic The Simpsons: Tapped Out Discontinues Services After 12 Iconic Years

The End of an Era: The Simpsons: Tapped Out to Leave App Stores

A Decade and a Half of Springfield Rebuilding

The Simpsons: Tapped Out, EA’s beloved free-to-play city builder, has been a staple on mobile devices for over 12 years. Launched in 2012, the game challenged players to rebuild Springfield after Homer Simpson’s catastrophic mistake, and it quickly became a massive success. By 2014, it had generated over $130 million in revenue, and it continued to receive updates and new content.

A Farewell from EA

However, all good things must come to an end. EA has announced that The Simpsons: Tapped Out will be removed from app stores on October 31st this year. But don’t worry, players won’t have to say goodbye just yet. The game’s servers will remain live until January 24th, 2024, giving players a chance to wrap up any remaining quests and say their goodbyes.

Gratitude and Appreciation

In a statement on The Simpsons: Tapped Out’s official Facebook page, EA expressed their gratitude to the players who have made the game possible. “It has been a remarkable journey,” they wrote. “We are grateful that we’ve been able to deliver 308 updates, 831 characters, and including today’s final farewell, 1,463 questlines. As our journey comes to a close, we offer our sincerest thanks to you, the players, who have made this all possible.”

The Final Countdown

Following the announcement, all in-app purchases have been disabled. Players will have until January 24th to complete any remaining tasks and collect their virtual donuts. After that, the game will go permanently offline, and the servers will be shut down.

A Sudden Note of Surreality

In a follow-up post, EA mentioned an issue with the in-game currency to donut conversion and promised to investigate. It’s a fittingly surreal note to end on, considering the game’s quirky humor and whimsical charm.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out’s legacy will live on, but for now, it’s time to say goodbye to Springfield and the lovable characters that inhabit it.
