Destiny 2’s Next-Gen Metroidvania Adventure Unleashed: New Concept Art Reveals Armor Evolution
Destiny 2: Codename Apollo Expansion and Next Generation Armour
As Bungie continues to build enthusiasm for the future of Destiny 2, amid significant layoffs and fan concerns, the studio has teases for the upcoming Codename: Apollo expansion – a "Metroidvania-inspired destination" concept art of which has recently been revealed.
Breaking Down the Details
Earlier this year, Bungie announced plans to switch to a new expansion release schedule, featuring two medium-sized expansions annually. This change aims to provide players with more regular content drops, rather than a single major release each year.
What’s in Store for Codename: Apollo?
As part of its latest developer stream, Bungie shared a deeper look into the plans for Codename: Apollo. This expansion, part of the Frontiers saga, will take players on a "non-linear campaign" featuring a "Metroidvania-inspired destination" filled with exploration and discovery opportunities.
Concept Art Insights
Concept art for Apollo shows a unique world featuring characters players haven’t encountered before in Destiny, drawing inspiration from early 60s prog rock like King Crimson and Jefferson Airplane, to Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five and the TV show Scavengers Reign. This exciting new world promises to put players in the driver’s seat, exploring its own story and uncovering its secrets.
Next Generation Armour
Additionally, as part of the studio’s efforts to revitalize the game, a new system called "next generation armour" is on the horizon. This system aims to make armour "exciting again" by adding unique properties and more manageable stats. According to a lengthy blog post, every stat point will now have a benefit, and armours will feature a "smaller number of unique stats" with larger contributions to these stats.
Revenant: Act 1 – The Beginning of a New Season
Before all this, though, Destiny 2 is about to kick off its latest season, Revenant: Act 1, which arrives next week. This new season brings new content, including the Onslaught: Salvation mode, featuring three maps, new enemies, and new defensive abilities – a turret, improved Stasis Slow tripwires, and an airstrike that sends a devastating blast from above.
