Crushing Success: Cyberpunk 2077 Board Game Crowdfunding Campaign Surpasses $1M in Record 10 Minutes
You know what’s wild? Cyberpunk 2077’s board game fundraiser is absolutely crushing it. Within just 10 minutes and four seconds, it hit its $100,000 target, and now it’s surpassed the $1.9 million mark. Yeah, it’s still going strong.
To put this into perspective, another Cyberpunk 2077 board game, Gangs of Night City, raised a relatively paltry $886,783 on Kickstarter. So, what’s going on here? Is it a testament to the game’s reversed reputation or people’s insatiable appetite for chunky boxes filled with little plastic miniatures? I’m not immune to the allure myself – I bought Cthulhu: Death May Die, which raised $3 million on Kickstarter, and it’s a blast. But it’s weird to see a big-time license like Cyberpunk 2077 resorting to crowdfunding, especially considering the game’s massive commercial success.
Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 25 million copies, for crying out loud! It’s not like they need to beg for money to fund a board game adaptation. Maybe they’re trying to tap into the popularity of the Netflix anime, Edgerunners, or the well-received Phantom Liberty DLC. Or maybe they just really, really love miniatures.
Go On Board, the studio behind The Witcher: Old World and The Witcher: Path of Destiny, is behind Cyberpunk 2077 – The Board Game. If you’re eager to contribute or just enjoy watching numbers rise, you can back the project on Gamefound.
