Crazy Affordable Futuristic Timepiece Dropped: Revolutionizing Luxury Watch Market
The Rise of Affordable High-End Watches
In recent years, the world of watchmaking has seen a significant shift, with microbrands playing a significant role in democratizing certain watch styles. This development has made it easier for watch enthusiasts to own high-quality timepieces at affordable prices. However, a new wave of innovation is now setting its sights on creating accessible alternatives to the avant-garde, haute-horological masterpieces from industry-leading brands like MB&F and De Bethune.
The Birth of a New Era
In 2022, Christopher Ward launched the Bel Canto, a chiming watch that exceeded expectations. The same year, MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser launched the M.A.D.Editions sub-brand, allowing him to produce watches in his signature style at a more affordable price point. This has led to the creation of the ~ $3,000 M.A.D.1.
Introducing SpaceOne
The latest name to join this trend is Guillaume Laidet, a seasoned expert in the vintage watch space, responsible for reviving the Nivada Grenchen and Vulcain brands. His latest venture, SpaceOne, aims to push the boundaries of what an affordable futuristic watch can be.
The SpaceOne Tellurium
SpaceOne recently debuted two new versions of its incredible Tellurium watch. The original version, launched earlier this year, featured an in-house jump hour module housed in a distinctive spaceship-inspired case. With a price tag around $2,000, it’s around 1/100th the price of the De Bethune Dream Watch 5.
One Small Step for a Brand
Laidet launched SpaceOne last year under the name Argon with the brand’s debut watch housing an in-house jump hour module. The watch initially drew comparisons to the De Bethune Dream Watch 5, but at a significantly lower price point.
The Tellurium Evolution
Fast-forward to the spring, and SpaceOne launched the Tellurium, an even more impressive and original watch featuring an in-house complication from co-founder and independent watchmaker, Theo Auffret. The original Tellurium in bare titanium is now sold out, but SpaceOne has now launched two more versions, black and blue, both in Grade 5 titanium.
What’s Next for SpaceOne?
As the world of watchmaking continues to evolve, it’s exciting to see brands like SpaceOne pushing the boundaries of innovation and affordability. With its debut models, SpaceOne has already made a significant impact. Here’s hoping they continue to revolutionize the world of watchmaking, making high-end timepieces more accessible to enthusiasts everywhere.
