Boosting Pixel Power: Google Unveils Camera 9.7 Patch Update

Pixel Camera Update: Smaller Patch, No Obvious User-Facing Changes

Google has rolled out a smaller patch update for the Pixel Camera, version 9.7.047.702121536.18. If you’re wondering what’s new, the short answer is: not much. It’s likely a bug fixer, and we didn’t notice any significant changes.

What’s Changed?

The main Pixel Camera update, version 9.7, was part of the December 2024 Feature Drop. This smaller patch update, version 9.7.047.702121536.18, was released via the Play Store, but there are no obvious user-facing changes. Quick Access Controls: A Flashback

Remember the Quick Access controls that added sliders for white balance, brightness, and shadows to the viewfinder after a tap? They were first introduced in version 9.7, and you can still enable them by navigating to the settings menu. Quick Access controls didn’t receive much fanfare in the Pixel Feature Drop, as the camera aspect of the update mainly focused on the Pixel Fold’s Made You Look feature and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s new Joy character from "Inside Out."

Other Notable News

The Instagram viewfinder gained Ultra HDR support, while Snapchat received system Photo Picker integration. While there hasn’t been a major camera update, a bigger update might be on the horizon for the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop.
