Boost Your Sound with Seamless Pixel Buds Gemini Compatibility
Google Extends Gemini AI Assistant to Older Pixel Buds Models
Google’s latest Pixel Buds Pro 2 was a major leap forward in earbuds technology, with Gemini integration being one of its most exciting features. But, it seems the Mountain View company is keen to spread the love and has announced that Gemini will be coming to older Pixel Buds models too.
What Does This Mean for Pixel Buds Owners?
The news came in the form of a mass email sent to Pixel Buds owners, as reported by 9to5Google. Google has also updated its support page to include the older Pixel Buds models that will be receiving the Gemini AI assistant.
Which Pixel Buds Models Will Get Gemini?
The list of compatible devices includes the original Pixel Buds, Pixel Buds Pro, and Pixel Buds A-Series. Users will need to set Gemini as their primary Google Assistant on their phone to activate the feature. However, it’s worth noting that Gemini hasn’t been released worldwide yet, so this feature is only applicable to countries where the mobile app is available.
Why the Change in Notification Feature?
The reason behind this change is due to the extension of Gemini AI assistant to older Pixel Buds models. According to the announcement, the new way to have the Pixel Buds read out notifications is to activate Google Assistant and say, “Hey Google, read my notifications.”
What Do Users Think About the Change?
Users weren’t happy about the change, as the notifications feature was a major selling point for many. However, this change was inevitable, as Google has been trying to extend its Gemini AI assistant to more devices.
Is the Older Model a Viable Option?
The extension of Gemini AI assistant to older Pixel Buds models makes the flagship model less tempting for some. The price difference between the two generations ($230 Pixel Buds Pro 2 vs. $140 Pixel Buds Pro) is massive, and the older model still offers decent sound and ANC. If you’re in the market for an entry-level pair of buds and wish to stay within the Google Assistant ecosystem, the older model is now worth considering.
Fit and Sound Quality
If your ears are accepting of earbuds of any size and weight, you’ll likely be okay with the fit on past Pixel Buds models. The sound quality and ANC on the first-gen Pixel Buds Pro were quite decent, too.
