Boost Your Holiday Entertainment: Google TV Expands Free Channel Lineup

Google TV Freeplay: More Additions and Holiday Channels

As we close out 2024, Google TV is wrapping up the year with a bang, introducing a new batch of free live streaming channels to its Freeplay lineup. This development brings the total number of channels to just shy of 170, making it a great way to cap off the year.

From 80 to 160+ Channels in 2024

Freeplay, which debuted earlier this year, allows users to start streaming free live channels as soon as they set up their Google TV device. Initially, the service launched with around 80 channels, but Google has been rapidly expanding its library. Over the course of 2024, the company has added approximately 50 new channels, with the total growing to 159 channels as of November. And now, even more channels are being made available.

Recent Additions and Holiday Channels

The latest crop of channels to be added to Freeplay includes:

• Designated Survivor
• Places & Spaces – The Great Christmas Light Fight
• Best of Dr. Phil
• Xumo Free Holiday Movie Channel
• Xumo Free Holiday Classics
• Xumo Christian Christmas
• Continuum
• Z Nation
• The Design Network
• Filmrise: Classic TV
• UFC
• Unbeaten
• Big 12 Studios
• Waypoint TV
• PursuitUP

Additionally, a few Stingray music channels have been temporarily updated for the holiday season, including Strings Greatest Holiday Hits, Stingray Soul Storm Christmas, and Stingray Hot Country Christmas.

Freeplay Library Reaches 171 Channels

With these new additions, the total number of channels available on Google TV Freeplay now stands at 171. While it’s unclear whether these holiday channels will be permanent, the addition of new content is a welcome development for users.

Beyond Freeplay: 1,100+ Free Channels Available

While the Freeplay platform provides an impressive 171 channels, it’s not the only way to access free content on Google TV. With the help of partners like Plex, PlutoTV, and others, there are now over 1,100 free channels available to users when they install additional apps.

Freeplay App Remains MIA for Some Devices

Despite the roll out of new channels, the revamped Freeplay app for Google TV remains out of reach for many users, following a bug-causing update that was rolled back. For those affected, the app is still missing from their devices, excluding the Google TV Streamer.
