Garage Organization Goals for 2025

As I sit in my garage, surrounded by stacks of bins and half-finished projects, I’m reminded of my goal to get a handle on garage organization in 2025. My one car is still a tight squeeze in what home builders can get away with calling a two-car garage, thanks to the amount of "stuff" we’re storing in there. I’m determined to create a nice big workbench for projects, photography, and making videos. And, with many of the things I need on sale now, I’m excited to get started.

Adam Savage’s Wisdom

One of my favorite Adam Savage-isms is, "There’s always more room on the Z-axis." He even sells a shirt with that printed across the chest. I already have a couple of stacks of bins like these Craftsman Large 30-Gallon Black Heavy-Duty Totes for $24.98, but at the moment, they’re all just stacked on the floor. The secret is to get them up and out of the way. NewAge Products has several options for doing just that, and I’m looking into trying a few different types. The most attractive one for use might be the VersaRac Pro Height-Adjustable Overhead Rack for $219.99.

Industrial-Grade Shelving

I do have a few shelves in my garage already, but I’m looking for something more industrial-grade like these Kobalt Bolted Steel Heavy Duty 4-Tier Utility Shelving Units for $289.00. Again, there are cheaper alternatives, but that’s what I already have. We bought them when we first moved in, and they’re fine for holding paper towels and sandwich bags; all the stuff we buy in bulk at the big box stores. But, for heavier things, they get a bit wobbly.

Bike Hangers and More

There are a few other things down there, including some bike hangers. I’ve recently culled the bike fleet a little bit, but I still need a better solution than my current rack. I haven’t decided on a wall mounting system yet. Apparently, the cool kids don’t use peg board anymore. The last thing on the list is a MaxWorks Furniture Dolly for $17.77. It isn’t really an organizational thing per se, but man is mine handy regularly, and I think everyone should own at least one of these.
