Boost Your Fitness Journey with Garmin’s December Update: Unlocks New Smartwatch Features
Garmin Brings Meditation, Workouts, and Strength Training to its Smartwatches and Cycling Computers
Garmin, known for creating some of the best smartwatches, has consistently impressed with its feature-packed devices, such as the Forerunner 265 and 965, ideal for runners. But the brand doesn’t stop there. With regular over-the-air updates, Garmin keeps pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for its wearables. And, the latest news is no exception.
December Update Brings Three Exciting New Features
According to a new report, Garmin has just dropped its December update for cycling computers and smartwatches, introducing three significant features. Let’s dive in and explore what’s new:
- Meditation Tracking: A great tool to manage stress and anxiety, meditation sessions can now be tracked, helping you stay on top of your mental well-being.
- Workout Optimization: With metrics like lactate threshold heart rate, you can better gauge the right intensity for your training. This feature automatically calculates your lactate threshold, but keep in mind it recommends waiting a few workouts to ensure accurate results.
- Garmin Coach Strength Training Plans: Create a custom workout routine to build muscle or achieve your fitness goals, all guided by the app. These plans are designed to get you started and keep you moving in the right direction.
When Can You Expect the Update?
The latest update will roll out to compatible devices in the coming weeks. Some of these features have already been available on newer models and are now being extended to older devices, making them more accessible to a broader audience.

The Vivoactive 5, shown above, already showcases some of these features. Meditation tracking, in particular, was previously available on the Vivoactive 5 and Venu 3. Garmin Coach strength training has been a feature on the Fenix E, Fenix 8, and Enduro 3 from the start. Lactate threshold detection, however, is a new addition to all products, including the Forerunner 955 and 965, which will receive all these features for the first time.
Automatic Updates
Garmin’s Connect app will automatically push the update to your device when it’s not in use. We’re thrilled to see Garmin continuing to innovate, subtly outpacing other competitors with unique features like lactate threshold detection. It’s all about serious training and performance tracking for Garmin, showcasing their commitment to serious athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
