Boost Mobile Email Security with Verified Senders Checkmarks in Gmail
Verified Senders Coming to Gmail on Mobile Devices
A Step Forward in the Fight Against Email Scams
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority
Gmail is taking another step in the fight against email scams by introducing verified senders on mobile devices. In a move that’s been long-awaited, the company will start displaying a checkmark next to senders who have adopted Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) and have a registered trademark with a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC). This verified checkmark will guarantee that the sender is who they claim to be.
What’s New?
- Gmail will start displaying a checkmark next to verified senders in the Gmail app for Android and iOS.
- To qualify, the sender must adopt BIMI and have a registered trademark with a VMC.
- Gmail now supports BIMI’s Common Mark Certificate (CMC).
- Verified checkmarks will only appear in the official Gmail app and not in third-party email clients.
Why is this Important?
- Verified senders help users recognize authentic senders and avoid falling for email scams.
- BIMI and VMC make it harder for scammers to impersonate known brands.
- Gmail’s new feature is already live on the web and will take a few weeks to roll out to mobile users.
How to Get Started
- Make sure you’re running the latest version of the Gmail app on your Android or iOS device.
- Wait for your account’s turn to receive the update.
