Battle the Grid: Tesla Model Y Juniper vs Kia EV9 Showdown

Tesla Model Y Juniper vs Kia EV9: A Head-to-Head Comparison
The Tesla Model Y Juniper is getting a major refresh, and we’re excited to see how it stacks up against the competition. In this article, we’ll be pitting the new Model Y against the Kia EV9 in a head-to-head comparison.
Design
The designs of the new Tesla Model Y and the Kia EV9 are quite different. The Model Y is more of a crossover, while the EV9 is a traditional SUV. The Model Y’s new design features a long light bar at the front, while the EV9 has angular headlights and a boxy shape. Both vehicles have their unique charm, so it’s up to you to decide which one you like better. This category is a tie.
Winner: Tie
Interior and Tech
In terms of interior design, the Tesla Model Y is known for its minimalism, and that continues with the latest refresh. The single display at the front of the vehicle serves as both an infotainment screen and a driver’s display. The Kia EV9, on the other hand, offers a more traditional approach with separate screens for the driver and passenger. The Model Y Juniper has added some modern touches, like accent lighting, to give it a sleeker feel.
Winner: Tesla Model Y
Range and Charging
Unfortunately, we don’t have all the range information for the Model Y Juniper yet, as the Chinese variants are rated by the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), which is less stringent than the EPA’s rating process in the US. However, we can compare the CLTC ratings of the Model Y Juniper and the previous-gen Model Y. The Model Y Juniper has a range of 593 km, which is an improvement of around 39 km over the previous-gen model. The AWD Model Y Juniper has a range of 320 miles, an improvement of 9 miles over the previous generation.
The range of the Kia EV9 varies depending on the model, with the base EV9 offering a 230-mile range, the Light Long Range RWD model offering a 304-mile range, and the other models offering between 270-280 miles of range. The EV9 can charge faster, with its 800V architecture allowing for charging at up to 350kW, which can charge from 10-80% in around 20 minutes. The Model Y tops out at around 250kW.
Winner: Tesla Model Y
Price and Availability
The Kia EV9 is fully available in the US and has been available for some time, with pricing starting at $54,900 for the EV9 Light RWD. The previous-generation Model Y has also been available for some time. However, the Model Y Juniper has only just launched in the US and is very limited in terms of availability, with only the high-end launch edition model available for now.
Winner: Kia EV9
Overall Winner: Tesla Model Y
The Model Y Juniper is faster and has a longer range than the Kia EV9, making it the winner in this comparison. While the Kia EV9 may have the edge in terms of price, that’s only because the Model Y Juniper is currently only available in the launch edition variant. When the Model Y Juniper becomes more widely available, the price difference may disappear, making the Tesla the better choice.
