Apple Reveals Mac mini Overhaul: Top Features Leaked

Apple’s Mac mini Overhaul: 5 USB-C Ports and More?

Rumors have been swirling for weeks that Apple’s Mac mini is due for a significant revamp, and while there’s been no official confirmation, a recent code leak might have just revealed the first hint of the upgrade. According to sources, Apple has accidentally confirmed at least one aspect of the Mac mini’s forthcoming makeover.

New Port Arrangement

As discovered by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, a new code string introduced in the freshly-launched macOS Sequoia seems to refer to a modified design for the Mac mini. Specifically, the code string reads: "Apple silicon Mac mini (5 Port)." This development lines up with a previous report from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who claimed that the next Mac mini – scheduled to launch at an upcoming event in October – will feature five USB-C ports, with two situated on the front and three on the rear.

Access and Flexibility

Currently, the Mac mini places all its ports on the back, making them less accessible. With two front-facing USB-C ports, users will have an easier time connecting peripherals, while the additional three on the rear will provide further flexibility. The maximum number of USB-C ports on the existing Mac mini is four, so this potential change could be a welcome upgrade for many users.

What Else is New?

In addition to the rumored port changes, Gurman has also predicted that the next Mac mini will boast an all-new design with a significantly reduced footprint, similar to that of an Apple TV box. This would result in the device taking up about as much space on your desk as a small entertainment box, with the Mac mini becoming slightly taller.

Significant Redesign

If true, this would mark the first major redesign for the Mac mini since June 2010, a gap of over 14 years. The prospect of a new look, improved USB-C connectivity, and M4 and M4 Pro chip options makes it an exciting time for those considering an upgrade to Apple’s smallest desktop computer.
