Apple iPhone 16 Event: FineWoven Cases Facing Demise?
Apple is known for crafting exceptional products, which is what makes their occasional missteps all the more surprising. The company’s FineWoven cases, introduced alongside the iPhone 15 series, are a perfect example of this. Not only were they met with widespread disappointment, but it’s now looking increasingly likely that they’ll be sent packing for good.
According to prominent leaker Majin Bu on X (formerly Twitter), Apple is on the verge of replacing their FineWoven cases with something new. Majin Bu shared two images showcasing the alleged new cases and their accompanying color palette, which features many of the same hues as the current FineWoven lineup.
One notable change is the substitution of Apple’s Pacific Blue color for a dark purple, while a new gray option is also supposedly in the works. The exact material used for the new cases remains a mystery, although Majin Bu hinted that it will be something novel to replace the problematic FineWoven micro twill material.
It’s worth noting that Majin Bu has a spotty track record when it comes to Apple leaks. While they’ve correctly predicted certain features, they’ve also been wrong on others. Their latest claim, however, gained credibility when the account retracted a second image that appeared to be an existing leather case, indicating that their due diligence may not have been top-notch.
So, what’s the problem with FineWoven? For starters, the cases were supposed to be an eco-friendlier alternative to Apple’s traditional leather options, but they’ve been beset by complaints about ease of scratching and staining. One reviewer even joked that their FineWoven case had become a “biomedical concern” due to its dirtiness.
Rumors suggest that Apple has halted production of FineWoven cases and might announce their discontinuation during their upcoming iPhone 16 event. This would effectively put an end to a product line that’s lasted barely a year. The fact that Majin Bu is touting a new, potentially improved alternative only adds fuel to the fire.
Ultimately, we’ll find out more about Apple’s plans for FineWoven (and their new cases) later today during their Apple iPhone 16 event. Make sure to check out our live blog for the latest updates and announcements, as well as our guides on how to watch the event and what to expect.
