WD Black SN850P: One-Minute Review

I’m a bit disappointed with the WD Black SN850P, despite its promising specs. On paper, it outperforms its predecessor, the WD Black SN850, but in reality, it lags behind in real-world testing. Even the PS5’s internal storage benchmark shows it struggling to keep up. What’s more, its design takes a step back from the original’s unique LED lights, opting for a more mundane, cheaper look.

To make matters worse, the SN850P comes at a higher price point than some of its competitors, including the Seagate Game Drive M.2 SSD for PS5. Yes, it does offer some impressive features like high read speeds and a durable build, but the extra cost isn’t necessarily justified.

If you’re in the market for a PS5 SSD, I’d recommend looking elsewhere, especially considering the excellent value offered by other options like the Seagate Game Drive M.2 SSD for PS5.

How I Tested the Seagate Game Drive M.2 SSD for PS5

I tested the WD Black SN850P by using it as my primary PS5 SSD drive for a week, playing a range of games from it, and measuring its performance using the built-in PS5 storage benchmark and a large game library copy test. I compared my experience to my hands-on testing of other PS5 SSD models, including the Samsung 990 Pro and more.
