AnandTech’s Legacy: A Bittersweet Farewell to a Decade of Tech Excellence
It’s with a mix of sadness and gratitude that I’m writing this farewell post for AnandTech, a website that has been my home for over 19 years. It’s hard to believe that after 27 years of covering the world of computing hardware, today marks AnandTech’s final day of publication.
We started with a review of an AMD processor, and little did we know that this journey would take us through the evolution of the industry, from boxy desktops to pocket computers. We’ve seen monumental changes in the world of publishing, and AnandTech has been fortunate to thrive in the past couple of decades alongside our peers.
I’ve had the privilege of working as AnandTech’s editor-in-chief for the past decade, and I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished together. From lauding legendary products to writing technology primers that remain relevant today, we’ve covered the gamut of the industry. There’s still so much more I wanted AnandTech to do, but I’m grateful for the journey we’ve taken.
While AnandTech is coming to an end, the website itself will remain live, thanks to our publisher, Future PLC. You’ll still be able to access all of our past articles, and I hope that many of them will remain relevant for years to come.
The AnandTech Forums will also continue to be operated by Future’s community team and our dedicated moderators. With forum threads dating back to 1999, we’ve created a community that’s been a staple of the industry for nearly as long as AnandTech itself has been around.
For readers who still need their technical writing fix, I recommend Tom’s Hardware, our formidable opposition and fellow Future brand. A few familiar AnandTech faces are already over there, providing their expertise and continuing to cover the world of technology.
Before I sign off one last time, I’d like to extend my sincerest gratitude to all of the people, groups, and companies that have been instrumental in AnandTech’s success. To my fellow editors, past and present, I thank you for your hard work and dedication. To our readers, thank you for sticking with us for the past 27 years. Your support means the world to us, and we’re grateful to have had the opportunity to share our passion for technology with you.
As I look to the future, I encourage all tech journalists to remain true to themselves and to their readers’ needs. In-depth reporting isn’t always sexy or exciting, but it’s necessary to counter sensationalism and cynicism with high-quality reporting and testing that supports thoughtful conclusions.
Thank you again for being part of the AnandTech journey.
