Embracing the Legends: Broken Sword 2 Remasters The Smoking Mirror’s Mysterious Allure
Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror Getting a Reforged Treatment?
In the wake of the successful launch of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged last year, fans of the beloved point-and-click adventure series are eagerly awaiting news of a similar treatment for its 1997 sequel, Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror. And, it appears as if their wish might soon come true.
Last year, Revolution Software’s release of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged breathed new life into the 1996 original, boasting 4K backgrounds, re-animated sprites, enhanced audio, and more. The result was a beautifully remastered experience that delighted fans, and it’s not hard to imagine a similar makeover for its sequel.
According to a recent Christmas recap video from Revolution Software, the studio’s boss and Broken Sword designer, Charles Cecil, ended the video by rummaging through concept art for Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged. However, one final drawing caught his eye – a collection of designs for George Stobbart’s outfit in Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror.
Cecil’s knowing shrug and a close-up of George’s holiday gear were all the confirmation fans needed that a Reforged edition of Broken Sword 2 is, at the very least, a possibility.
While there’s no official word on when or if such a project will materialize, it’s clear that fans are eagerly awaiting more information. With the studio still hard at work on their upcoming sixth series entry, Broken Sword – Parzival’s Stone, it’s likely that any news on a Reforged version of The Smoking Mirror won’t be coming anytime soon. Nonetheless, here’s hoping it won’t be too long before we get more than just a tease.
