Samsung Foldable Sales Slump: Will 2024 Targets Take a Hit?

Samsung’s Foldable Future: Are Smartphones Losing Steam?

The world of foldable smartphones has been a wild ride, with innovators like Samsung pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible with our devices. From concept to reality, foldables have swiftly become a staple in the tech world. However, a new report suggests that Samsung might be scaling back its plans for next year’s models.

TL;DR:

  • Samsung may produce fewer foldables in 2025, targeting 5 million units instead of the initially planned 8.2 million.
  • Optimizing profits instead of focusing solely on volume is the new strategy.
  • The Galaxy S series may take center stage, with a potential 37.5 million units shipped.

Is the folding market losing steam? It’s possible that consumers are getting a little exhausted with slight tweaks to previous designs or craving the latest dual-folding screen technology. The underwhelming response to the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s sales could be a factor, as well as the promising but not yet enthusiastic reception of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.

A report from South Korea’s ET News claims that Samsung is shifting its production focus towards more Galaxy S phones and fewer Galaxy Z foldables. According to industry sources, the company plans to produce 5 million units of the Flip 7 and Fold 7, a significant drop from its initial 8.2 million target for this year’s models. On the other hand, the Galaxy S25 is expected to see a modest increase, with Samsung aiming for 37.5 million units, a slight upswing from the S24’s 35 million.

While Samsung’s overall targets might be slightly down in 2025, there’s still room for surprises, like the rumored Galaxy S25 Slim. With the excitement surrounding the thinner Z Fold Special Edition, an affordable flagship with similar appeal could be a hit, and Samsung is reportedly expecting to ship around 3 million units of this device.

One thing is for certain – we’re eagerly anticipating Samsung’s 2025 story to unfold. While the company hasn’t announced an official release date yet, rumors suggest we’ll get a glimpse at the new S25 hardware on January 22. Stay tuned!
