Huawei Mate X6: A Foldable Phone with a Hefty Price Tag
The Huawei Mate X6, a new entrant in the world of foldable phones, has finally made its global debut, following its release in China towards the end of November. This premium device will be available in a single 12/512GB variant, priced at €2,000. The good news is that it will be shipping to global customers starting January 6.
A Foldable Phone with a Price to Match
The Mate X6 boasts a large, 6.45-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display. It’s a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Mate X5, with a smaller 6.1-inch cover display. However, the new device still lacks one major advantage – Google Play support. While Huawei has made significant strides in expanding its AppGallery, it still lags behind its Google counterpart. At €2,000, this is a lot of money for a phone with limited app selection.
Comparison with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is another premium foldable phone, albeit with a different design philosophy. While the Mate X6 has a more compact build, the Galaxy Z Fold6 has a larger footprint. The Z Fold6 boasts a larger 6.2-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display, which is the same size as the Mate X6. Both phones come with limited battery capacity, but the Mate X6’s 5,110mAh battery is larger. It also supports fast 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Camera Performance
The Mate X6 is equipped with an impressive camera system, featuring a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP 90mm periscope lens with OIS, and a 40MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view. We have plenty of camera samples in our hands-on review, so stay tuned for more information.
Other Foldables in the Market
In the European market, other options are available, such as the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Honor Magic V3. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold boasts a 6.3-inch cover display and an 8-inch inner display, while the Honor Magic V3 has a 6.43-inch cover and a 7.92-inch inner display. Both phones are priced at around €2,000 for the base model.
