Miraculous Ocean Rescue: Wrangler Driver Survives Dramatic Coastline Plunge
Jeep Wrangler Left Stranded and Drowned on California Beach
There’s nothing more thrilling than cruising down a scenic beach in your off-road capable Jeep Wrangler, right? Well, maybe not if you end up like this poor guy, whose Wrangler found itself utterly defeated by the Pacific Ocean at Corona del Mar in Newport Beach, California.
The Great Drowning
Local authorities received a call around 5:30 a.m. on December 14th, and when they arrived on the scene, they found the Jeep stranded and struggling to stay above water. The Newport Beach Fire Department sprang into action, rescuing a single occupant from the water before attempting to extract the vehicle.
What Happened?
While it’s unclear exactly how the Jeep ended up in this predicament, historians note that the tide was rising at the time of the rescue, with low tide occurring at 1:05 a.m. and high tide following at 7:28 a.m. It’s possible that a single massive wave was enough to suck the Wrangler in, though NBFD is still investigating the cause.
Off-Road No More
Regardless of how it got there, driving on Corona del Mar’s main beach is strictly prohibited. As these photos show, it’s easy to see why – just look at that massive rock looming above the rising tide. The last thing you want is to get slammed against one of those.
The Aftermath
As you’d expect, the Jeep is essentially totaled. Newport Beach Public Works brought in a wheeled John Deere front loader to retrieve it, but not before the poor guy had to endure a soggy, busted-windowed, and sand-covered mess.
Stay Safe Out There
It’s a good reminder that even the most capable vehicles can be no match for Mother Nature. Always respect the tides, stay safe, and keep those tires firmly on dry land.
