Android Auto and Android Automotive Get Weather App Support

Google has added Weather to its list of supported app categories for Android Auto and Android Automotive, opening the door to new apps that provide weather information relevant to your current location or route.
What are the Supported App Categories?
As of this month, the list of supported app categories for Android Auto and Android Automotive includes:
- General App Categories:
- Media – audio
- Messaging
- Navigation
- Point of Interest (POI)
- Internet of Things (IoT)
- Weather
- Parked App Categories:
- Video
- Games
- Browsers
Weather Apps for Android Auto and Android Automotive
Weather apps can provide you with relevant weather information related to your current location or along your route. They can also offer navigation capabilities to help you get from point A to point B. Currently, two weather apps are available for download: Weather & Radar and MyRadar Weather Radar. These apps are already available on the Google Play Store, but more apps will be released under the new Weather category in the future.
Developers, Take Note!
Developers creating weather apps for Android Auto and Android Automotive are encouraged to use the Android for Cars App Library, which provides helpful templates. These apps must adhere to Google’s car app quality guidelines, including specific requirements for the Weather category.
Get Ready for More Weather Apps!
While the official Weather category is only now in beta, we can expect more weather apps to be released under this category in the future.
