Unpacking the Mysterious Midichlorian Connection in Dune: Prophecy Season 1 Finale
Dune: Prophecy – A Show of Ambition and Frayed Edges
The latest iteration of the beloved sci-fi franchise, Dune: Prophecy, has left fans divided. With its complex web of characters, plots, and counterplots, it’s easy to get lost in the show’s intricacies. But as we approach the season 1 finale, it’s time to take a step back and examine the show’s future.
The Proto-Kwisatz Haderach Path
One possible direction the show could take is the simple, yet pat, route of Desmond Hart being the proto-Kwisatz Haderach. This would mean that the Bene Gesserit have found a male with supernatural abilities, and the rest of the show would fall into place. The war on Arrakis would see the Fremen claim victories, and Mikaela would look on sadly as her people are fed a lie about Lisan al Gaib. The Sisterhood would learn to harness the Voice, and the show would be recognizable to fans of the Denis Villeneuve movies by the end of the season.
This path would be easy to follow, but it would also shrink the universe and rob it of its mystery. Dune: Prophecy would become the Solo: A Star Wars Story of the Dune universe, a brief adventure that explains the backstory of everyone involved.
The Midi-Chlorians Path
The other option is to stop connecting the dots and let the reveal of Desmond’s shared Harkonnen and Atreides blood be a surprise. This would mean that the show wouldn’t be focused on creating a proto-Kwisatz Haderach, but rather on exploring the larger, stranger parts of the Dune universe.
This path would offer the chance for Dune: Prophecy to open the door to the Guild Navigators, the Spacing Guild, and the complex, massive war on Arrakis. It would show us the struggles that would force the Bene Gesserit to evolve into the clandestine organization we know them as.
The Future of Dune: Prophecy****
To create a show that’s truly worthy of the Dune franchise, Dune: Prophecy needs to take a risk and be big and messy and ambitious. The show needs to be willing to leave some threads untied and some questions unanswered.
In the end, it’s up to the showrunners to decide which path to take. But if they choose the midi-chlorians path, they’ll be creating a show that’s truly epic in scope and ambition.
The Potential for Frayed Edges
As we approach the season 1 finale, it’s clear that Dune: Prophecy has the potential to create some wonderfully frayed edges in its first season. The show has the opportunity to be big and messy and ambitious, just like the original book.
But to do that, the finale will have to be a game-changer. It will have to be a showstopper that sets the stage for the rest of the series. If the show can pull it off, Dune: Prophecy could be the start of something truly special.
