Unleashing Epic Games Across Android Devices: Fortnite and Epic Games Store Get Seamless Access to Millions
Epic Games and Telefónica Team Up to Bring the Epic Games Store to Android Devices
Get ready for a new era of gaming on your Android device! Epic Games, the studio behind Fortnite and more, has just signed a deal with European telecommunications company Telefónica to pre-install the Epic Games Store on all their new Android devices.
Starting now, new Android Telefónica customers in Spain, Latin America, Germany, and the UK will have access to Epic’s games, including Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe, right out of the box. This means that players will be able to easily download these popular games and enjoy them on their new devices.
A Competitive Ecosystem
This strategic alliance aims to create a more competitive ecosystem for Android players, empowering them with a choice beyond the conventional app marketplaces. According to Epic, this partnership will bring benefits to mobile players across the Telefónica network, with plans to expand the collaboration over the next year.
Competition in the Market
This move comes after Apple’s decision to boot Fortnite from the App Store in 2020 due to Epic’s attempt to bypass contractually mandated payment mechanisms within the game. This led to a public war between Epic’s CEO, Tim Sweeney, and Apple in US courts. With this new partnership, Epic is now giving Android players a new way to access their games and get away from Apple’s control.
What’s Next?
Michael Modon, Senior Director of Growth Partnerships at Epic Games, expressed the company’s excitement about the new partnership: "Thanks to our collaboration with Telefónica, players will now be able to access the Epic Games Store, Fortnite, and soon games from third-party developers directly on their Android device. We look forward to expanding our cooperation with Telefónica to bring even more benefits to players."
Fortnite’s Future
In other news, Epic announced that it will continue to support Fortnite’s Festival mode, the game’s Rock Band-like mode developed by Harmonix, for the foreseeable future. This means that players can look forward to even more music-filled fun and excitement in the world of Fortnite.
